NCAA volleyball: Perpetual Help nearly perfect in 1st day of semis

Season hosts University of Perpetual Help System DALTA posted straight set victories in the men's and women’' division to continue their school's dominance in the 87th NCAA volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. After sweeping all nine of their elimination round games, the defending men's champion Altas extended their winning run at the start of the semifinal round by trouncing the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 25-13, 25-14, 25-23 while the Lady Altas clinched their 10th straight victory by clobbering the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals, 25-19, 25-17, 25-13. Joaquin Marcelo led the Altas with 13 points while teammate Adam Daquer added 10 markers in the game, which lasted for 69 minutes. Honey Rose Tubino had nine hits and four blocks while teammate Sandra de los Santos chipped in 10 hits for the Lady Altas. The San Sebastian High School Staglets spoiled Perpetual's aim for a shutout though, as they humbled the defending junior champions in straight sets, 27-25, 26-24, 25-23. Elimination top-notcher EAC-ICA Brigadiers also extended their winning streak as they posted their eighth straight victory by thwarting the Arellano Baby Chiefs, 25-21, 25-21, 26-24. Reigning juniors beach volleyball tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) Jopet Adrian Movido led the Brigadiers with 15 points. In the other men's semifinals pairing, San Beda College edged elimination round tormentor Arellano University Chiefs in four sets, 25-19, 27-25, 13-25, 28-26. — AD/JVP, GMA News
