The Far Eastern University Tamaraws, led by point guard Terrence Romeo's 18 markers, subdued the University of the East Red Warriors 65-63, to secure the second quarterfinals spot in Group B of the 8th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup, last Saturday. Romeo, together with Cris Tolomia, Gryann Mendoza, and Team B prospect Mac Belo, combined for 17 first quarter points, while helping to limit the Red Warriors to a mere 10 markers. After posting a 1-2 start, FEU has been surging, winning their last four. In one of the other matches, 6-0 Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights picked up their first loss in a violent manner, forfeiting a fight-marred game with the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, their opponents in the NCAA. A bench-clearing brawl between the two sides erupted with 7:22 left in the second quarter, resulting in league commissioner Aric del Rosario throwing out all players involved. The decision left the Knights without any eligible players, while the Generals still had two who didn't engage in the scuffle, letting EAC pick up the win by default. At 6-1, Letran still rules Group B though, while EAC ended their campaign at 3-4. Other results include the reigning PCCL champions, the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags sneaking past the STI College Olympians, 78-74, while in the sole Group A game, the Informatics International College Icons kept the Angeles University Foundation Great Danes winless, 74-63.  - AMD, GMA News
