UAAP: Norman Black out as Ateneo head coach after 2012 season 

The Ateneo de Manila University announced Saturday that multi-titled Norman Black will resign as head coach of the Blue Eagles basketball team after the 2012 season in order to return to the PBA.  Black however has agreed to stay on as the team's consultant up to 2014, according to the memo by university president Jose Villarin S.J. to the university community. 

Villarin writes that Black "has indicated his desire to return to the PBA where he hopes to replicate his successful system."  Black was initially hired by Ateneo as a team consultant in 2004, before taking over the team the succeeding year. He has piloted the Blue Eagles to four straight titles since 2008, and will look to finish his coaching career at Ateneo with a fifth championship. Rumors of Black leaving Ateneo have circulated since last year. Black will supposedly be offered the reins of the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters, of which he is currently a consultant, with that team's current coach, Chot Reyes, moving on to handle the next incarnation of the Philippine National team.  Black is also a candidate for the latter position, having helmed the Philippine's gold-medal winning South East Asian Games squad late last year, from which the new incarnation of the National team will likely draw players from.  One possible candidate for the Blue Eagles head coach position will be Ateneo alumnus and former PBA player Olsen Racela, who handled the Philippine Under-16 team in 2011. The university could also promote one of Black's assistants such as Jamike Jarin, former Blue Eaglets head coach, or Sandy Arespacochaga, who was the main man while Black was a consultant in 2004. - HS, GMA News
