Eagles, Bulldogs headline FilOil Mythical Five

The FilOil Flying V Pre-season Tournament named its Mythical Five on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan, after the third-place matchup between the San Beda Red Lions and the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles.   Bobby Ray Parks and Emmanuel Mbe headlined the ceremony, both players from the National University Bulldogs, this year's FilOil champions.   Parks, who was also last season’s UAAP MVP, posted averages of 18.55 points (on 45.16 percent shooting), 5.36 rebounds, 3.82 assists, 1.27 steals and 0.82 blocks, while his tag-team partner Mbe normed 14.64 markers, 11.64 caroms and 1.64 swats.   Mbe also carries the lone distinction of being the only player entering his third playing year in the UAAP, as his Mythical Five contemporaries are all about to begin their sophomore seasons.   The duo was also conferred additional merit, as the Cameroonian center was also recognized as the league's best defensive player.   Then in a separate ceremony after the championship game, the Bulldogs' sophomore swingman was named the Most Valuable Player in this summer's tournament.   Two players from the Blue Eagles were featured as well. Sophomores Greg Slaughter and Kiefer Ravena were recognized for putting up 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.7 blocks a game, and 10.45 points, 4.82 rebounds, 3.27 assists and 1.36 steals, respectively.   The Eagles, reigning four-peat titlists in the UAAP, managed to pull out a third place finish after dispatching the back-to-back NCAA champs, the San Beda College Red Lions. Ateneo was unable to defend their FilOil title in the Finals after getting bumped off by NU.   Filipino-Canadian big man Norbert Torres was the sole player from the De La Salle University Green Archers, this year's FilOil runners-up, on the quintet. He put up averages of 11.73 points, 10.27 rebounds, 2.09 assists and 1.55 blocks.   Curiously, not a single player from the NCAA was given a Mythical Five berth. - AMD, GMA News
