UAAP Media Bureau apologizes for calling NU ‘overrated’ on Twitter
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Online Media Bureau apologized on Sunday for describing the National University Bulldgs as "overrated" in a tweet, following an 89-65 blowout to the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles.
"The comment is uncalled for and does not reflect the UAAP's stand on the game. We will enforce guidelines tighter next time and ensure that no such comment be made," the UAAP Season 75’s official Twitter account, @UAAPSeason75, said.
Apologies for the 'overrated' comment. An intern from UE was operating the account during the Ateneo-NU game. The comment is uncalled for.. — UAAP Season 75 (@UAAPSeason75) July 22, 2012

The UAAP media bureau issued the apology after it tweeted "ADMU dominates overrated NU, 89-65" after a basketball match on Sunday afternoon. The account initially tried to explain its use of the word, adding in a separate tweet, "NU played a tough fight today. Ateneo just made its way for a big win. Just to explain the 'overrated' adjective....again. To all UAAP fans, we apologize for the mistake. - UAAP Online Media Bureau — UAAP Season 75 (@UAAPSeason75) July 22, 2012
Both the original tweet and the subsequent "explanation" were later deleted. In its apology, the UAAP Online Media Bureau explained that an intern from the University of the East was the one who came up with the tweet, but that too did not sit well with some Twitter users, who saw it was an attempt to shift blame.“@UAAPSeason75: NU played a tough fight today. Ateneo just made its way for a big win. Just to explain the 'overrated' adjective. #UAAP75” — Professional Heckler (@HecklerForever) July 22, 2012
Nanira na nga sa naunang tweet, nanira pa din sa apology? Adik lang @uaapseason75 !? Ok lang sana kung di na sinabi na "intern from UE yun"

That led to another apology from the Twitter account, saying that they had no intention "to offend anyone by naming where the intern came from," saying that they just wanted to point out that he or she was not from Ateneo, the team that defeated NU.Either it was a deliberate show of bias or intern doesn't really know what the word means. Sad in both counts @UAAPSeason75 @HecklerForever

Again, no intention to offend anyone by naming where the intern came from. Just clearing that the one who posted the tweet is not from ADMU. — UAAP Season 75 (@UAAPSeason75) July 22, 2012
In another tweet, the UAAP Online Media Bureau thanked the public for its support, and vowed "better service" in upcoming games. - Andreo Calonzo/AMD, GMA NewsAgain, thanks everyone for your support to #UAAP75! We hope to be of better service to you in the coming games. #Unbreakable — UAAP Season 75 (@UAAPSeason75) July 22, 2012
