UAAP: UP vs AdU preview and live-scoring
Game starts at 4pm. Page auto-refreshes every 30 seconds.
Two winless teams, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons and the Adamson University Soaring Falcons, collide, as they seek that elusive "W" and try to avoid the cellar position in the 75th season of the UAAP, Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. In their last game, versus the host team National University Bulldogs, the Fighting Maroons (0-2) were hit hard by a 26-8 second quarter that led to a 42-18 halftime deficit, but they managed to live up to their monicker by going down swinging in the second half. A tricky 1-3-1 zone defense held NU to just 10 points in the third period. Then a 15-3 fourth quarter blast had them within 16 with 4:40 to play, 57-41. While they ultimately couldn't lower their deficit to under double figures (the final score read 67-50), they at least gave NU a scare late, and hopefully some of the momentum generated will carry over to this game. On the other side, Adamson (0-2) came close to forcing overtime against the FEU Tamaraws, as their defense held FEU to a single field goal in the final four minutes of play. They were then gifted with a golden opportunity as a sloppy Tams inbounds pass allowed the Falcons to swipe the ball. Needing a triple to produce another five minutes of play, Roider Cabrera's shot was unfortunately off, allowing FEU to escape once more by the skin of their teeth, 65-62. Adamson actually trailed starting early in the second quarter, but clutch plays from their role players made sure the deficit never got out of hand. Players like Allen Etrone, John Abrigo and Harry Petilos made up for some poor play by Alex Nuyles that actually got him benched midway through the second half. Unfortunately though, they weren't able to fully complete the comeback. Along with UE, which plays in the 2pm game, these three teams are the squads without a victory to their name. One things's for sure, when the day is over, at least one of them, will have finally broken into the win column. - AMD, GMA News UP projected starting line-up: Mike Silungan (11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals, 2 blocks versus NU), Jelo Montecastro, Mark Lopez, Raul Soyud, Paolo Romero ADU projected starting line-up: Jericho Cruz (8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals versus FEU), Eric Camson, Rodney Brondial, Alex Nuyles, Ryan Monteclaro
