The Polytechnic University of the Philippines used a strong first quarter showing to whip the Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA) Jaguars, 111-78, on Monday at the 14th Petron-National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men's basketball tournament at the Emilio Aguinaldo Sports Center. The victory kept the Maroons in contention for one of three remaining semifinals slots as they posted their sixth win in nine games. Gener Porio showed the way with 14 points while Jeff Khalili had 13 points for the Maroons, who moved to a share of third position with the Arellano University Chiefs. The Maroons' fortunes will look brighter if they hurdle the Olivarez College Sea Lions in their 1:30 p.m. clash Tuesday. "Mayroon pa kaming chance. Kailangang manalo kami sa last game namin against Olivarez para pumasok," Maroons coach Jimmy Martirez said. The St. Francis Doves (8-2) are already assured of a semis seat after stopping the Chiefs, 56-55, last Saturday. The Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals and the PATTS College of Aeronautics share the no. 2 spot with similar 6-2 cards, while the Asian College of Science and Technology Lightnings is on fourth at 6-4. In women's action, Genebeth Ramos fired 21 points as the PUP Lady Maroons took the second championship seat with their 77-59 crushing of the St. Francis Lady Doves. - GMANews.TV
