UAAP: Point guard prospect Kib Montalbo commits to Green Archers - report
Kib Montalbo, the Bacolod-based point guard prospect wooed by both the De La Salle University Green Archers and the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, has opted for the former, and will don the Green and White for his collegiate career, the Visasyan Daily Star is reporting
Montalbo's father, Roger, confirmed the decision with the paper, adding that they would "finalize the details of his [Kib] entry to DLSU this weekend in Manila with the [DLSU] team managers."
The high school senior from St. John's Institute drew meetings from both teams' head coaches, Gee Abanilla of DLSU, and newly-hired Bo Perasol of ADMU, but ultimately decided to become an Archer.
Montalbo was a standout for his school in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (NOPPSSCEA), last year leading SJI past defending champions West Negros University Junior Mustangs and then the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Junior Rams to cop the league's junior crown
The report also said that Montalbo was a part of the 2010 Jr. NBA All-Star Philippines squad that played games abroad in China.
Last UAAP season, the Green Archers made it to the Final Four of the UAAP, largely on the back of UAAP Rookie of the Year Jeron Teng. Armed with a 9-5 record, the team squeaked into the post-season after besting the FEU Tamaraws in playoff, but lost against the eventual champions Ateneo.
The rookie though will have to break into a point guard rotation that last year featured LA Revilla, Almond Vosotros, Thomas Torres, and Mark Tallo. - RAF/AMD, GMA News
