UAAP: Gumabao looks to leave while Marano stays for DLSU Lady Spikers
By RENEE AVENA FOPALAN, GMA News
(Updated 2:46pm) After winning their third straight championship, co-MVP Aby Marano and Finals MVP Michelle Gumabao look like they're heading towards different directions. While the two both have one year of eligibility left with the Archers, it looks like only one of them is preparing to stay. Siguro as a team, solid parin naman sila," said Gumabao when asked about the team's chances next year. "Kahit sinong mawawala, kahit sinong papasok, they're still solid as a team. Andun parin naman same coaching staff. I believe in them all the way." With the growing popularity of the sport and the La Salle program, Gumabao might just end up getting convinced to stay another year, but even the Lady Spikers' head coach Ramil de Jesus is not certain about his ward's plans. "Next year, bahala na. Enjoy muna natin to," said de Jesus. "With or without Michelle, kelangan gumalaw yung team." Due to DLSU's trimestral system, La Salle students have the luxury of finishing their degrees in a little over three years. Gumabao, who majors in Marketing Management, has yet to be convinced to stay for another year by enrolling in the DLSU Graduate School of Business. Philippine Media major Marano, on the other hand, looks set to continue in the masters program of her course. Marano herself confirmed with GMA News Online that she will stay and finish her fifth and final year. "I still have one more playing year. I'm sure I'll play next year," said Marano, who was awarded the co-MVP award with sophomore teammate Ara Galang. Also leaving for the Lady Spikers are Wensh Tiu and libero Melissa Gohing, who have used up their playing years. - AMD, GMA News
