UAAP: Romeo tops statistical points race, Parks in second
Far Eastern University Tamaraw Terrence Romeo compiled the most statistical points after the first round of UAAP Season 76, to lead the MVP race, official statistics revealed, Monday.
Based on the report by Pong Ducanes, UAAP head statistician, Romeo has a total of 79 statistical points, thanks to, among others, 158 points, 44 rebounds and 29 assists, with 105 bonus points for having swept through all seven games of round one.
On his heels is reigning back-to-back MVP Bobby Ray Parks of the National University Bulldogs with 76.14 points. The third-placer is center Charles Mammie, of the University of the East Red Warriors, but despite 74.83 points, he is disqualified for any post-season award due to having drawn a suspension for two unsportsmanlike fouls.
Another UE-NU pair brings up the top-five with NU center Emmanuel Mbe (67.29 SPs) at fourth, and UE point guard Roi Sumang (66.14 SPs) in fifth.
Ducanes and the UAAP previously discussed revising the statistical points formula, with the possibility of a sliding scale of bonus points for won games, and the inclusion of scoring efficiency into the computation. The UAAP technical committee however said that any revisions would not be implemented this season. - AMD, GMA News
