SLIDESHOW: V-League season 11 opening day


Check out the scenes from the opening day of the Shakey’s V-League’s 11th season. Featuring 12 teams from all over the country, the 1st conference began Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Arena, with defending champions NU Lady Bulldogs going up against NCAA titlists University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas as the marquee match-up.

(The Davao Lady Agilas were not in the opening ceremonies).

After finishing as runners-up last year, the Ateneo Lady Eagles, now defending UAAP champions, hope to add a 1st conference title to their mantle
 
 
The FEU Lady Tams are looking to bounce back after narrowly missing out on the UAAP postseason.
 
 
 
After getting stopped by Ateneo in the first rung of the stepladder competition in the UAAP, the Adamson Lady Falcons hope to soar higher in this tournament.
 
 
Runners-up this season to NCAA champs UPHSD Lady Altas, the Arellano Lady Chiefs now take their talents to the V-League.
 
 
The DLSU Lady Spikers won't compete in this tourney once more, but there's certainly still some animo spirit, care of the St. Benilde Lady Blazers, who just missed out on an NCAA Finals spot this season.
 
 
The current NCAA three-peat champs Perpetual Help Lady Altas have the V-League trophy in their sights
 
 
The San Sebastian Lady Stags topped the NCAA women's volleyball elimination round, but faltered in the semis. They'll hope to avoid a similar fate in the V-League.
 
 
From Baguio City, the St. Louis University volleybelles hope to shock a couple of their more heralded NCAA/UAAP opponents.
 
 
Another province-based team, Cebu's Southwestern University Lady Cobras boast of an impressive CESAFI record, which they hope will translate this time in the V-League.
 
 
The UST Lady Tigers disappointed this UAAP season, failing to enter the Final Four. A V-League turnaround is definitely on their minds.
 
 
The defending champions NU Lady Bulldogs suffered an abrupt UAAP exit, failing to get to the Finals. No doubt, they'll be raring to defend their V-League crown.
 
 
UAAP regular season and Finals MVP Alyssa Valdez (R) went right back to work, unloading a team-high 23 points in Ateneo's four-set win against Adamson.

In the second game of the season, defending champs NU stamped their authority on Perpetual Help, via a straight-sets win.
