Bata, Django win 1st games in US Pro Tour


The Philippines' top cue artists Efren "Bata" Reyes and Francisco "Django" Bustamante easily hurdled their first round assignments in the 5th US Pro Tour Championship being held at the Normandie Casino in Los Angeles, California. According to results posted at www.azbilliards.com on Thursday, Reyes, easily completed an 11-6 first-round victory over Neal Fujiawara while Bustamante had an easier time with an 11-1 win oagainst James Burt. Reyes and Bustamante opted to compete in the $20,000 tournament instead of in the 2nd BSCP National Pool Championship ongoing at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila. A third Filipino, Santos Sambajon, also scored an easy victory in the race-to-11, alternate break eliminations with an 11-2 win versus Dan Burdick. Reyes will face Ronnie Wiseman, a 11-6 winner over Shane Van Boening, in the second round. Bustamante will be matching nerves against Mike Davis who also earned a bye in the first round. Sambajon will get the chance to experience playing against five-time world champion Johnny Archer, who likewise earned a bye in the first day of competitions. - GMANews.TV
