Cristian Mijares vs Jorge Arce
WBC Super Flyweight Title Cristian Mijares may have a tough time defending his WBC world super flyweight title against number one contender Jorge "El Travieso' Arce," who holds the distinction of having one of the longest running winning streaks in boxing, having not lost a fight for seven years since July 1999. The 27-year-old Arce, born July 27, 1979 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, held the WBC world champ in the light flyweight title, which he defended seven times, and the WBC world flyweight title, which he defended four times. Arce last fought on January 27, 2006, against Argentinian Julio David Roque Ler, winning the bout via a unanimous decision at the Honda Center in California. On the other hand, Mijares got the WBC world interim super flylweight title by split decision against Japanese Katsushige Kawashima in a match held on September 18, 2006, at the Pacifico in Yokohama. He kept the title in a unanimous decision match against Colombian Reynaldo Lopez on November 17, 2006, at the Auditoria Municipal in Torreon, Mexico. He also won his rematch with Kawashima, via TKO, on January 3, 2007. Arce has had more fights than Mijares — a total of 50 with a card of 46-3-1 (35 knockouts). Mijares has had only 35 fights, with a card of 30-3-2 (12 knockouts). In other words, Arce has won 92 percent of his fights, and 76 percent of his victories were KOs. Mijares has won only 86 percent of his fights, of which only 40 percent were KOs. Arce, despite being the contender in this match, is ranked no. 1 as a super flyweight by the WBC and no. 2 as a superflyweight by the WBA.
