Danny Ildefonso is PBA Player of the Week

Danny Ildefonso of San Miguel Beer was chosen by the PBA Press Corps as its ACCELL-Talk N' Text Player of the Week for the period of June 4-10. According to the association Monday, Ildefonso was given his second citation in the three weeks. "Maraming intangibles siyang ibinibigay sa team and I guess those make him the great player he truly is," said SMB coach Siot Tanquingcen on Ildefonso, the league's MVP in 2000 and 2001. In the Beermen's victory against Sta. Lucia Realty and Coca Cola last week, Ildefonso posted averages of 18.5 points, six rebounds, two assists and 1.5 blocked shots. In the 102-85 win over the Realtors last Friday, Ildefonso had 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and as many blocks in 30 minutes and followed that up with 18 points on 8-for-14 field shooting, six rebounds, two assists and a block in 27 minutes in their 102-101 win over the Tigers last Sunday. "It's no secret na siya ang pinaka-threat namin offensively. And those numbers, iyun 'yung MVP na Danny I," Tanquingcen said of the statistics put up by the 1998 Rookie of the Year. But there's more. The Beermen seemed certain to bow down in defeat to the Tigers after being down by four points in the last 14 seconds and by 99-101, only 9.7 ticks left. Then Ildefonso came up with two huge plays. First, he helped force Coke's John Arigo to a traveling violation and then, in the ensuing play, gave a high pick that freed up Galen Young for what would turn out to be a game-winning three-point play. - GMANews.TV
