King, Navratilova have most number of Wimbledon titles

American Billie Jean King and Czech-American Martina Navratilova holds the record for most championship titles, both singles and doubles, at Wimbledon. Friends off the court but fierce opponents on the grass, each of them has 20 titles — King posting six in singles, 10 in doubles, and four in mixed-doubles title victories; and Navratilova with nine in singles, seven in doubles, and four in mixed doubles. Navratilova had a string of victories in the singles event starting in 1982 to 1987. In 1979, King and Navratilova teamed up to win the doubles title. American Venus Williams, who has so far won three singles titles, was the lowest ranked player to win the crown. Compatriot Chris Evert, who won the title in 1974 and 1976, has lost seven times in the finals for the most number of setbacks in Wimbledon singles finals. Venus Williams lost to sister Serena twice, in 2002 and 2003, both for the singles title. From 1988-1996, German Steffi Graf, who is married to Andre Agassi, won seven singles titles. - GMANews.TV
