AdMU, FEU, La Salle, NU win UAAP juniors basketball games
Four teams, including the defending champions Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eaglets, remained unscathed after two playdates of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) juniors basketball tournament over the weekend at the Far Eastern University Gym. Juami Tiongson scored 21 points and Ael Banal chipped in with 12 in leading the Blue Eaglets to their second straight win, a 79-64 demolition job of the University of Santo Tomas Cubs, according to league statement issued on Monday. The Baby Tamaraws, the runners-up last year, La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers, and the surprising National University (NU) Bullpups also chalked up 2-0 win-loss records after gaining similar convincing victories. Mashi Okubo and Bryan Manguera combined for 35 points in leading the Junior Archers to a 93-52 victory over UP Integrated School Junior Maroons, while Anthony Paulino made 14 points and 11 rebounds in pacing the Baby Tamaraws to a 75-64 decision over the University of the East Pages. Kevin Batac, meanwhile, was a one-man wrecking crew that lead the Bullpups with 30 points in a 79-69 nipping of the Adamson University Baby Falcons. In women's play at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City, the Ateneo Lady Eagles won, 54-30, over the NU Lady Bulldogs, and the UP Lady Maroons beat the La Salle Lady Archers, 46-36. The Eagles and Maroons thus improved their win-loss cards to 2-0. Rem Buenacosa made 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Marichu Bacaro was brilliant with 14 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in leading the defending chams UST Tigresses to their first win in two games, a 69-56 edging of the Adamson Lady Falcons.
