Pacquiao, Barrera meet the press July 24

For the first time in four years, Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao and Mexican fighter Marco Antonio Barrera will face each other in a July 24 press conference in Los Angeles. Fightnews.com disclosed Tuesday (Wednesday in the Philippines) after an interview with Top Rank, Inc. chairman Bob Arum that the press conference will be at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Arum was quoted as saying that the press conference will officially launch the Pacquiao - Barrera rematch on Oct. 6 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tickets for the fight were also disclosed by Arum, who said that watching the fight at ringside will cost $600. Other tickets are set at $400, $300, $200 and $100. Arum likewise revealed that including the Pacquiao-Barrera fight, there will be four televised fights. "One fight will be a Top Rank title fight, while the other will be a Golden Boy title fight and the other will be mixed, meaning a Top Rank fighter will go up against a Golden Boy fighter," Arum explained. Press conferences for the fight will also be held in San Francisco and Mexico City to drum up excitement to the fight. Pacquiao, who knocked out Barrera on the 11th round when the first met in November of 2004, will be staking his World Boxing Council International super-featherweight title in the fight. In the same report, trainer Freddie Roach said that it is good for Pacquiao that the promotional schedule was finalized early and will be held early too. "It's good that the press conferences and other promotional stuff are going to be held early so it won't get in the way of Manny's training," said Roach from the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood. Pacquiao, in the same report, was said to start his training on Aug. 1 at the Wild Card Boxing gym. - GMANews.TV
