Sisnorio family yet to receive purse in son's fatal fight
The family of the late boxer Lito Sisnorio has yet to receive the fight purse from his fatal match in Thailand. This was revealed by Lito's father Angelito Sisnorio Sr and mother Consuelo to PhilBoxing.com in an interview in Marbel, South Cotabato. Likewise, Sisnorio's parents said that money from a Thai insurance firm t has yet to be delivered too. Nonetheless, they are grateful to the people who have helped them including the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA), Games and Amusements Board (GAB), Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Pacland/Philboxing.com, which started a fund-raising campaign. Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao gave P50,000. "But still, we are very thankful to all the people who helped us through their monetary assistance," said Angelito Sr. The Philippine Sportswriters Association, with the help of GAB, raised P20,000 in the Fiesta Fistiana fund-raising boxing card last April 29 at the Rajah Sulaiman Park. The Fiesta Fistiana is a fundrainsing activity to help destitute and injured former boxers. The younger Sisnorio died less than 24 hours after his fourth-round knockout loss to former world champion Chatchai Sasakul in Thailand on March 30. He was 24. Sisnorio Sr said earlier in another interview that the money will be used to buy a parcel of land in Gen. Santos City and a carabao. "These will be the Sisnorio's first real properties," said Sisnorio's niece Kristine Camora. "They've never owned any property before, and all the help they received as a result of my uncle's death are not going to waste because they will help start a new life for the family." Sisnorio's fight in Thailand was not sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) as he was coming off a series of defeats before he was spirited out of the country by unscrupulous matchmakers to see action in an uneven fight, resulting in his death. Lito's demise has spurred a crackdown in the illegal practice of sending poor boxers to serve as stepping stones for ranked fighters abroad, especially in Thailand. It has since resulted in the arrest of Bong Obero (real name: Ranilo Terrania), whom the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) tagged as responsible for sending Sisnorio to his doom. Lito was eighth in a brood of nine and was still single at the time of his death. He was the breadwinner of the family, forcing him to quit his criminology studies at the Marbel School of Science and Technology to pursue a career in boxing, but was exploited by a syndicate who ranged him against Sasakul. - GMANews.TV
