Pinoy boxer Gorres out of RP-Mexico World Cup


Filipino boxer Z "The Dream" Gorres is out of the Philippines vs Mexico World Cup of boxing at the Arco Arena on August 11. PhilBoxing.com said Friday that Gorres was found to have a "slight tear in the arena" during a mandatory medical check up in Los Angeles, where the Filipino boxer and several compatriots are training. The report said that manager Michael Aldeguer confirmed the information and added that the go signal for the Filipino to meet Gerson Guerrero on the much awaited boxing card has been "withheld until a specialist examines the eye tomorrow (Friday in the United States)." The same report was confirmed by Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez and international matchmaker Samson Lewkowick, who indicated that the chance of Gorres meeting Guerrero is now very slim. In another report by PhilBoxing.com, it was revealed that Gorres-Guerrero fight was replaced by the Diosdado Gabi - Jose Angel Beranza. The report said that Gabi, the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight contenders who bowed to erstwhile undefeated Vic Darchinanyan, was scheduled to fight Jose Angel Beranza, who was also a replacement for Francisco Rosas. Golden Boy Promotions, which is organizing the event, has decided to put the Gabi - Beranza fight, scrapping the match wherein Guerrero would fight. Gorres' eye problem, according to the report, can be corrected but he it will take time to repair the injury. The report pointed to the condition of Sugar Ray Leonard, who had a detached retina, but extended his career and even won against Marvin Hagler. - GMANews.TV
