Pacquio slaps 4 mediamen with P30M libel suit
Boxing champ Mannny Pacquio has slapped four journalists of the Manila Bulletin with a P30 million libel suit for the publication of an article that allegedly attacked his reputation. Pacquio filed the case against Manila Bulletin sports writer Nick Giongco, publisher Hermogenes P. Pobre, editor-in-chief Cris J. Icban Jr, and Sports section editor Ding Marcelo on Monday at the Prosecutorâs Office in General Santos City. Pacquio claimed that the July 25 article âTrouble in Paradise Again?," written by Giongco, âattacked" his âvirtue and reputation." He found the fourth paragraph of the said article libelous, wherein it was stated that the boxer "spent millions in unsuccessful bid to win a congressional seat in his hometown in General Santos City is reported to be a compulsive gambler and is known to bet hundreds of thousand in casinos, cockfighting, and billiards." The complainant said the said portion of the article had exposed him to âpublic hatred, contempt, shame and ridicule." - GMANews.TV
