Taiwan's Ching beats Alcano in Shanghai leg of Guinness 9-Ball

Taiwanese Ching-Shung Yang extended the Philippine's misery in the Guinness 9-Ball tour late Sunday when he demolished reigning double world champ Ronato Alcano, 12-10, in the title round of the tour's final leg in Shanghai, China. The tour website, www.guinness9balltour.com, reported that Yang's victory over Alcano was his third title in the tour after winning the Kaoshiung (Taiwan) and Singapore legs Yang compatriot Chang Jung-Lin bagged the Jakarta and Genting Highlands (Thailand) legs. The defeat, however, was not for naught, as Alcano towed compatriot Lee Van Corteza into the Top 10 of the tour's point system, giving the latter the chance to play in the Grand Finale slated from August 31 to September 2 in Bali, Indonesia. Only the Top 10 players after the five-leg tour will play in the Bali competition. Alcano opened the door for Corteza to make it to the Grand Finale by defeating Korean Ryu Seung Woo, 11-6, in the semifinals. Corteza, Japan's Naoyuki Oi, Singapore's Chan Keng Kwang and Ryu Seong-woo were tied for the 10th spot with identical 100 total tour points and a finals appearance for Ryu will automatically send him to the Grand Finale. Without Efren "Bata" Reyes and Django Bustamante in the Guinness Tour, the Taiwanese were able to dominate the field. Reyes and Bustamante are San Miguel Beer endorsers, a competitor of title sponsor Guinness. - GMANews.TV
