IPTL: Serena Williams leads star-studded Manila Mavericks lineup to victory against UAE Royals

The Manila Mavericks drew inspiration from the home crowd to dominate the UAE Royals, 29-18, on the opening day of the Manila leg of the IPTL Tour on Sunday at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.

Mark Philippousis started things off in the men's legends category, defeating last year's crowd favorite Goran Ivanisevic, 6-2. Milos Raonic followed it up with a 6-4 win against Tomas Berdych, before the Mavericks suffered their only defeat of the match as Serena Williams and Filipino doubles great Treat Huey fell to Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic, 6-5.

Williams bounced back, making quick work of Ana Ivanovic in women's singles, 6-3, while Richard Gasquet and Edouoard Roger-Vasselin ended the night with a 6-3 win over Berdych and Nestor.

The Mavericks will face off against Marat Safin's Japan Warriors at 7:30pm on Monday. - GMA News
