'Boom Boom' Bautista to fight before year ends
Sun.Star: After his embarrassing first round knockout loss to WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce de Leon, ALA boy Rey âBoom Boom" Bautista is set to get into the ring again before the year ends. Cebu boxing patron Antonio L. Aldeguer revealed this yesterday in an interview with Sun.Star Superbalita. Aldeguer said they are still negotiating for Bautistaâs fight, which will be possibly staged at the Araneta Coliseum this November or December. However, Aldeguer said that they still have to finalized the opponent, venue and who the promoter will be. âDefinitely Boom Boom will fight again before the year ends," said Aldeguer. Aldeguer said Viva Sports is interested to promote the next fight of Bautista who lost to de Leon. That loss ended Bautista's 23-win streak. Ring date Aside from Viva Sports, Aldeguer also said Golden Boy Promotions, owned by Oscar dela Hoya, is also planning to promote Bautistaâs next fight. Though details of his next ring date are still to be ironed out, Bautista is eager to fight anew. The 21-year-old boxer is currently taking a break from rigid training back in his home town in Candijay, Bohol. âIâm taking it easy here but every morning, I still jog and I still practice so I am in good condition always," Bautista told Superbalita. âWhen I get back on the ring, I will show who Boom Boom really is," Bautista admitted that he has learned from his loss and these lessons will aid him in his next fight. âI want to go back and practice in Cebu. I want to avenge my loss, and to prove that I can be a world champion," said Bautista, who has a 23-1 record with 17 KOs. - Sun.Star
