CUSA: MLQU wins over CCP, 83-81

Defending champion Manuel Luis Quezon University nosed out Central Colleges of the Philippines , 83-81, on a buzzer-beating put back by John Dizon in the 13th Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (CUSA) men's basketball tournament at the CCP gym in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Jopher Custodio scattered 30 points to lead the Jojo Castillo-mentored Stallions, who are hoping to retain the title they won over Philippine Maritime Institute in the exciting title showdown last year. Dizon added 13 points. Zaldy Corpuz fired 16 points and Jeff Benabese added 15 points for the Bobcats. Sharing the limelight was Metro Manila College , which subdued De Ocampo Memorial College, 75-71. Ryan Egay and Scott Danao scored 26 points between them to lead the Bisons of coach Bong Pineda and manager Albert Miranda. Egay finished with 14 and Danao added 12 points for MMC. Roy Siglos top scored for the Cobras with 17 markers. MMC completed a double celebration by downing University of Assumption-Pampanga, 76-71, in the junior division.
