Palace praises PHL athletes in 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia


Malacañang on Saturday congratulated athletes who raked in medals and represented the Philippines in the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEA) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

"Congratulations to all Filipino athletes who played and won in yesterday’s events in the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia," the Palace said in a statement read by China Jocson, assistant to the Presidential spokesperson, in a radio briefing in state-run Radyo Pilipinas.

As of August 26, the Philippines has 15 gold, 21 silver, and 36 bronze medals.

The Philippines bagged silver courtesy of Ruben Gonzales Jr. and Francis Casey Alcantara in Tennis’ Men’s Doubles; James Deiparine for Men’s Aquatic Swimming 100-meter Breaststroke; and Hazel Jagonoy, Rosita Bradborn, Vilma Greenless for Women’s Lawn Bowls – Triples.

In the Women’s Athletics 4x100-meter relay, the country won a bronze medal from Zion Rose Nelson, Kayla Anise Maico Richardson, Kyla Ashley Maico Richardson and Eloisa Luzon.

In the Men’s Athletics 4x100-meter relay, the Philippines also won a bronze medal courtesy of Eric Shauwn Cray, Anfernee Lopena, Archand Christian Bagsit, and Trenten Anthony Beram.

Other athletes who won bronze medals are Marestella Sunang in Women’s Athletics Field-Long Jump; Melvin Calano in Men’s Athletics Field-Javelin Throw; and Denise Dy and Katharina Lehnert in Tennis’ Women’s Doubles.

"So, inaanyayahan natin ang ating mga kababayan na patuloy po tayong manood at suportahan ang ating mga atletang Pinoy," the Palace said. — MDM, GMA News
