CUSA: Stallions beat Cobras, 91-83, to face Bobcats in finals
Defending champion Manuel Luis Quezon University (MLQU) defeated De Ocampo Memorial College (DOMC), 91-83, Sunday to set up a best-of-three title showdown with early finalist Central Colleges of the Philippines (CCP) at the 13th Colleges and Universities Sports Association (CUSA) basketball tournament at the Trinity University Gym. According to a CUSA statement, six mainstays, led by Jack Manalansan and Rendell Patricio, scored in double figures for the MLQU Stallions, who are hoping to retain the title they won over Philippine Maritime Institute last year. Manalansan finished with 18 points, followed by Patricio with 13, Mark Tamayo and Mark Tadlas with 13, Alvin Vitug with 12, and Erick Dizon with 11. Allen Morales finished with 19 markers for the DOMC Cobras, which forged a sudden-death match with a 74-73 win in their previous outing. The Stallions and CCP Bobcats will begin their title series at 3:30 p.m. Monday. The Bobcats clinched the first finals berth by edging Philippine College of Criminology (PCCr) Enforcers, 86-84. In the women's division, the University of Assumption Pampanga downed Trinity University of Asia, 54-49, to clinch the second finals berth in the women's division. The University of Asia & the Pacific (UA&P) will meet PCCr in the finals. In the junior division, it will be PCCr against St. Jude College.
