Forbes beats Bojado by split decision in Vegas


American welterweight Steve Forbes won by split decision over Mexican Francisco Bojado Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) in an undercard to the Pacquiao-Barrera rematch at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Manila. It was a nontitle 10-round bout. Two judges scored 97-93, 96-94 in favor of Forbes, with Bojado getting 96-94 from the third judge. Earlier in the evening, three other Mexicans also lost their bouts – all nontitle. In the third bout, an eight-rounder, American lightweight Vicente Escobedo bested Miguel Angel Murcia via unanimous decision. In the second bout, a six-rounder, Filipino featherweight Mike Farenas won in Round 2 of technical knockout against Mexican Arturo Valenzuela. In the third bout, another six-rounder, American featherweight Alejandro Perez TKO'd Mexican Jaime Villa in Round 5. Covering the main event for Solar Sports and GMA Network are Quinito Henson, Chino Trinidad, and North Cotabato Gov. Manny Piñol. The main event is expected to start at around 11 a.m. Sunday (Philippine time). GMANews.TV
