MVBA: Pacquiao's Warriors beat Duterte Agilas, 91-80

Manny Pacquiao's Warriors-GenSan moved closer to gaining a spot in the Mindanao Division finals of the 2007 Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Second Conference after they posted a 91-80 win over the Duterte Agilas-Davao Tuesday night at the Almendras Gym in Davao City. The Warriors were comfortably ahead 80-54 with still five minutes in the game when coach Ramon Pido slowly inserted his key players, allowing the Agilas to rally behind Boboy Berami, Bob Cozy Ilanga, Greggy Delica, and Fred Sampilo. A Sampilo triple cut the lead to only nine points, 76-85, with a minute to play. Pido sued for time and opted to keep the same five on the floor. As play resumed, Jomer Rubi added three free throws and Miller Dennison a basket for an unassailable 90-76 Warriors' margin with 30 ticks left on the clock. Delica then made back-to-back baskets and Dennison another free throw to settle the final tally to 91-80, according to an MVBA statement issued on Wednesday. Both teams mix it up anew on Thursday (November 15) with the Warriors as host at the South Cotabato Gym and Cultural Center in Koronadal City starting at 6 pm. The Warriors leveled their win-loss record at 4-4 while the Agilas dropped to 1-7. In between them is idle Holcim Pryce Pharma-MisOr at 2-6. MisOr will complete the classification round with a visit to the Warriors and Agilas on November 16 and 18 respectively.
