Golden Boy considering Hatton-Pacquiao bout

Sun.Star: Another intriguing name has been added to the list of Manny Pacquiao’s possible opponents and this time it’s the hardworking Ricky “The Hitman" Hatton, who lost a 10th round TKO to current pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. last Sunday. Freddie Roach, the trainer of Pacquiao (45-3-2, 35 KO’s) said in a report posted at Philboxing.com that Hatton (43-1, 31 KO’s) was mentioned by Golden Boy Promotions as one of Pacquiao’s possible future opponents. “They’re talking about Manny Pacquiao as future opponent for somebody like Ricky Hatton down the line," said Roach. Aside from Hatton, another fighter touted to face Pacquiao is the owner of Golden Boy Promotions himself—Oscar dela Hoya. However, Roach is shooting down the dela Hoya match, which is backed by Top Rank’s Bob Arum. Pacquiao’s fights at the 130-pound level, while dela Hoya fights at 154 pounds. “I don’t believe Oscar can go down to 147. I’m not that sure if that will work out. But against Ricky Hatton who’s maybe is just as popular in his home country, it will be a huge fight for everybody," Roach said in the report. Right, now Pacquiao is set to fight Juan Manuel Marquez, whom he downed thrice in the first round in the first match, for March 15, 2008. - Sun.star
