RP diving team wins gold medal at SEA Games


The Philippine diving team on Saturday gave the country its 41st gold medal in the 24th Southeast Asian Games being held in Thailand. The Filipino divers ruled the men’s synchronized 10 meters platform. In tennis, the team of Cecil Mamiit and Eric Taino snagged a silver medal in the men’s doubles. Another silver medal was bagged by the team of Denise Dy and Mamiit in the mixed doubles. The sepak takraw team, on the other hand, settled for a bronze medal in women’s doubles category. Based on the results posted on the SEA Games Web site , as of 2:59 p.m., the Philippines is still in sixth place with 226 total medals, including 90 silver and 95 bronze. Thailand topped the count with 408 medals (181 gold), followed by Malaysia with 216 medals (68 gold), Vietnam with 203 medals (64 gold), Indonesia with 201 medals (55 gold) and Singapore with 126 medals (43 medals). Myanmar is in the seventh place with 87 medals (14 gold), Laos PDR with 44 medals (five medals), Cambodia with 18 medals (two gold) and Brunei Darussalam with six medals (one gold). - AMITA LEGASPI, GMANews.TV
