Pinay, daughter to claim $2.16-M Fischer estate

Lawyer Sammy Estimo of Tacorda & Associates will represent Marilyn Young and her daughter in their bid to claim the 140 million Iceland kronur ($2.16 million) left by the late chess legend Bobby Fischer, with whom Young claims to have had a relationship. In a statement on Wednesday, Estimo said that the deal was arranged by grandmaster Eugene Torre, a long-time associate of Fischer. Young provided the birth and baptismal certificates of Fischer's daughter, Jinky, who was born on May 21, 2001 in Baguio City. Estimo also received child's passport, her photos with Fischer and their child with signed notes, and the latest bank remittance by Fischer of 1,500 euros to her daughter on December 4, 2007. The lawyer added that, according to Marilyn, she and her child went to Iceland in September 2005 and stayed with Fischer for three weeks. That was the last time that mother and daughter saw the chess legend. But Marilyn narrated that she and Fischer texted each other every day. The last time they talked to each was on January 16, at 11:00 p.m.. The next day, Fischer died at the hospital where he had been confined. Estimo has started the paper work for the recovery of Fischer's estate. Opposition, however, is expected to come from Miyoko Watai, the alleged Japanese wife of Fischer and from his brother-in-law Russel Tang and his two sons. - GMANews.TV
