MSU-T posts 2 wins at Nestea Beach Volleyball
Mindanao State University-Tawi Tawi (MSU-T) posted two victories on Wednesday in the second day of competitions in the Mindanao eliminations of the 12th Nestea Beach Volleyball at the Tagum Beach Volleydrome at the Rotary Park in Tagum City. According to results gathered by GMANews.TV, brothers Yusop and Momoy Abdulkarim of MSU-T eliminated Xavier University pair Michael Crisostomo and Ryan Mark Abutits, 21-14, 21-23, 15-10. After that they proceeded in dispatching the Ateneo de Davao University pair of Spar John Cosme and Bernabe Fernandez Jr., 21-12, 21-17. The twin victories provided the Abdulkarim brothers a very small window to defend their title after they lost 21-13, 21-18, on opening day to solo leader University of Mindanao-Tagum (UMT). Yusop and Momoy are still in fourth place with Agusan Institute of Technology and Davao Marine Merchant Academy at 2-1. The UMT duo of Raquelito Tayabas and Lowell Fabian has posted a 3-0 slate in the 12-team men's bracket after defeating Asian Institute of Technology, 21-17, 21-13. "Nanghihina ako ng kaunti pero kaya ko naman maglaro (I feel weak but I can still play)," Tayabas said in a statement released by organizers on Wednesday. UMT can go straight to the April 24-26 Boracay national finals if they should win again on Thursday. Capitol University is in solo second at 2-0 while Holy Cross of Davao College is at third at 3-1. MSU-Main, Xavier, Maharlika Institute of Technology, and 2007 Mindanao third placer Tawi-Tawi Regional Agricultural College have yet to enter the win column and were all eliminated for the race to reach the national finals. In the ladies competitions, UMT and MSU-T are in the lead with their 2-0 records, while six other competing squads are tied at 1-1. UMT's duo of Mylin Que and and Liezel Manatad bested University of Mindanao-Davao's Maricel Cabus and Janice Arnaiz, 21-17, 21-9, and MSU-T's Lina Gampong and Fauzia Idrissalam had to dig deep before downing Holy Cross' Mykah Ramos and Aiza Armacion, 21-18, 23-21, 15-8. UMD, HCDC, Jose Maria College, MSU-Main, Capitol, and Ateneo de Davao are tied, all with 1-1 slates. Xavier is the only ladies team which has yet to post a victory. - GMANews.TV
