Blazers, Altas enter Luzon beach volleyball semis


The College of St. Benilde (CSB) Blazers and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) Altas entered the semifinals of the 2008 Nestea Beach Volleyball Luzon elimination on Wednesday at the Island Cove Resort in Cavite. Blazers Angelo Espiritu and Eddie Macdon came back from a first-set defeat and repulsed Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws Edjet Mabbayad and Jerry Mabutol (17-21, 21-15, 15-12) to keep their slate clean after three assignments. Altas Aristain Sartin and Marcelo Joaquin Jr. bested Philippine Christian University (PCU) Dolphins Jhester Tuante and Gabriel Usman (21-18, 23-21). Because of their losses, the Tamaraws and Dolphins are facing must-win matches on Thursday to keep heir hopes alive of making it to the Boracay semifinals and finals, which takes place from April 24 to 26. In the women's matches, University of Baguio, University of the Philippines, and Colegio de San Juan de Letran posted identical 2-1 records. Lady Maroons Miah Rose Manukay and Danielle Michiko Castañeda split their matches on Wednesday, bowing first to Lady Tams Wendy Ann Semana and Shaira Gonzalez (16-21, 21-17, 9-15) but immediately coming back against St. Louis University tandem Karen Pis-oy and Stephanie Dayot (21-6, 21-8). Letran Lady Knights Bangladesh Pantaleon and Joy Caises dominated San Beda College-Alabang's Mossah Maica Carlos and Raiza Esther Sucaldito (21-9, 21-9). The University of Baguio outlasted the Blazers (21-19, 27-25), to also immediately come back after a defeat in the hands of Lyceum (17-21, 9-21). - GMANews.TV
