Lyceum beats PWU in Summer League women's basketball


MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum of the Philippines University massacred Philippine Women's University, 60-30, for its third consecutive win in Group B of the 2008 Nike Summer League women's basketball tournament at the Far Eastern University gym in Manila. Former RP women's team mainstay April Dianne Lualhati led the Lady Pirates with 15 points, followed by Precious Mae Jimenez with 15 and Kristina de Jesus with 12, according to a league statement issued on Thursday. Also in Group B action, the University of the Philippines outclassed the Philippine Maritime Institute, 53-42, to bag its second win. At the helm for the Lady Maroons were national team mainstay Fatima Tolentino who scored 15 points, followed byFionna Molina with 11. In Group A, FEU overwhelmed De La Salle-Lipa, 91-30, to also post its third straight win. The Lady Tamaraws got 14 points each from Chovi Borja and Bernadette Mercado. Socorro Borja contribured 12 points and Mary Love Miag-ao and Josielyn Sernal added 10 points each. In the men's division, Metro Manila College triumphed over Philippine College of Criminology, 77-65, to earn its first win after two matches. PCCr is still winless after three outings. In the junior division, Jesus Is Lord Colleges Foundation Inc. was just too much for Don Bosco Technical Institute, 95-64 and San Beda-Alabang overcame Letran College, 73-63. - GMANews.TV
