Davao settles for bronze in Sepak takraw


PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan - The Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) salvaged the bronze medal in elementary boys sipa takraw even as it suffered major losses on Day 5 of competition in the 2008 Palarong Pambansa here Friday. Davraa's sipa takraw team, coached by Agustin Juyad, earned seven points for its bronze finish, while gold medallist Eastern Visayas got 15 points and silver medallist Western Visayas had 10. Davao City's Belly Boy Adas and Genesis Odas led the charge for the team that was reinforced by Compostela Valley's Marjun Dialang. Davao's secondary team, however, landed at the fifth spot behind Mimaropa Region, National Capital Region (NCR), and Central Luzon that pocketed the gold, silver and bronze, respectively. Western Visayas was fourth. The elementary boys basketball team lost to Central Visayas, 54-58, but bounced back with a rousing 62-27 win over Eastern Visayas. The Davraa squad of Isais Gravador Jr. will play for fifth place against Ilocos Region. Davraa's secondary cagers, meanwhile, downed Calabarzon, 66-63, on Friday after losing to Central Luzon, 74-90, Thursday. The secondary girls volleyball team lost to Western Visayas, while the elementary boys spikers beat Central Visayas, 2-1, only to fall at the hands of Western Visayas, 17-25, 18-25. In elementary football, Davraa edged Caraga Region 2-1, and followed it up with a 1-0 win against Calabarzon. Davraa succumbed to NCR, 0-8, in elementary softball while its secondary baseball team will play against Cagayan Valley in the quarterfinals after crushing Zamboanga Peninsula, 8-2. - Sun.Star Davao
