NCAA players encourage fellow student-athletes to use influence for good in Eleksyon 2025

In a digital era when student-athletes are more visible than ever, these NCAA stars hope they — and their fellow players — can put their influence into good use in time for the 2025 Philippine elections.

Incoming Lyceum of the Philippines University volleyball player Roxie dela Cruz stressed that their impact goes beyond the four sides of the court, saying they also have to do their share in other aspects of life.

The 21-year-old Dela Cruz was among select NCAA stars who were part of GMA Integrated News' coverage of the 2025 midterm elections. In their volunteer work, they were tasked to pitch social media comments posted on various GMA accounts.

"I believe kami pong student-athletes, lalo sa generation namin, malaki po ‘yung impact namin so much better na i-influence po namin ‘yung ibag tao to be informed about the election," Dela Cruz told GMA News Online on Monday.

"Kasi ‘yung influence po namin hindi lang po siya through sports, pati na rin po sa other perspectives in life."

Patrick Sleat of the Perpetual ALTAs and TJ Felebrico of the San Sebastian Stags share the same sentiment, saying student-athletes have so much potential in making a huge impact on people and nation.

"May kanya-kanya naman tayong gusto na kandidato pero syempre ine-encourage din natin ‘yung ibang tao na iboto ‘yung tama," the graduating Felebrico said.

Sleat added: "Kailangan mo talagang gamitin ‘yung influence mo sa tama and you just have to really try ipakita ‘yung magandang influence sa mga tao."
