SK to hold Summer Chess Festival at GS Citimall


DAVAO CITY, Philippines - The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Summer Chess Festival and Summer Youth Chess Festival will get going on May 19 to 21 at the Gaisano South Citimall. This was bared by National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto in a fact sheet e-mailed to Sun.Star Davao. The SK chessfest features the male and female 15 to 16 years old and 17-18 categories where the champion will receive an SK trophy, while the next four finishers will get SK medals. Infiesto said registration of the SK competition is through different barangay SK chairpersons. In the youth chess meet, he said categories are boys and girls eight years old and below, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. The first three placers will receive medals with Growee and Zeeplus items. Interested players may sign up for free at the Davao Professionals and Enthusiasts Chess Club at Osme¤a Chess Park. "Chessers, however, are required to bring certified true copy of their birth certificates," Infiesto said. Infiesto added that the Swiss System format tournaments are NCFP-rated. The two chess meets are sponsored by SK Davao president and Davao City Councilor Halila Y. Sudagar, Growee, Zeeplus, Evangelista Aquatics and Sports Management Inc., NCFP Southern Mindanao, NCFP Mindanao Grassroots Program and Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO). - Sun.Star
