International soccer icon Pelé joins Twitter


Brazilian-born soccer legend Pelé joined the social networking site Twitter on Tuesday, with the microblogging service verifying his account @pele The 71-year-old Pelé's first and so-far only tweet reads, "Hello world, thank you for welcoming me to Twitter. I am very excited to share my life with you. Love, Pelé" Since the account was launched, Pelé has quickly amassed 105,000-plus followers. Among his many accomplishments, Pelé has been cited by FIFA as the "Player of the Century," the International Olympics Committee as the "Athlete of the Century," and UNICEF as "Football Player of the Century." Also on his résumé is the honor of being the only football player to be part of three World Cup-winning teams, all while playing for his homeland of Brazil.  — Adrian Dy/RSJ, GMA News
