Champions League to display 'Hindi kayo nagiisa, Pilipinas' banners


UEFA will post banners with the message 'Hindi kayo nagiisa, Pilipinas' or 'You are not alone Philippines,' in all of this week's UEFA Champions League games, the governing body of football in Europe announced Monday in a release.


The gesture is meant as a "mark of respect" for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda, which number in the thousands.

"The entire European football family will stand united on the pitch this week before our matches, in order to express our deepest sympathy and full support to the Philippines, and we wish them continued strength in tackling the subsequent problems following the tragedy," the release quotes UEFA President Michel Platini.

On Tuesday (Wednesday, PHL time), matches include Basel versus Chelsea, Steua Bucharest versus Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund versus Napoli, Arsenal versus Olympique de Marseille , Zenit St. Petersburg versus Atletico Madrid, Porto versus Austria Wien, Ajax Amsterdam versus FC Barcelona and Celtic versus AC Milan.

Wednesday (Thursday, PHL time) games include Shakhtar Donetsk versus Real Sociedad, Bayer Leverkusen versus Manchester United, Juventus versus FC Kobenhavn, Real Madrid versus Galatasaray, Paris Saint Germain versus Olympiakos, Anderlecht versus Benfica, Manchester City versus Viktoria Plzen, and CSKA Moskva versus Bayern Munich. - AMD, GMA News
