FC Barcelona's football school to hold camps in Cebu

FC Barcelona Escola will hold its third football training camp in Cebu City after successful turnouts for camps in Taguig and Alabang last year.

The five-day football camp, which will be held from October 26 to 29 at Aboitiz Sports Field, will train boys and girls aged 6-14.

"We are confident that this training camp will provide participants confidence, inspiration, and the start of good football foundation for them to reach greater heights," said FC Barcelona Escola Camp Philippines co-head organizer and Team Socceroo managing director Nicholas Reyes in a press release.

In the first two editions of the training camp, young players from as far as Cebu, Negros Occidental, Davao, Iloilo, and Cagayan de Oro attended to learn football skills and values from one of the most popular clubs in the world.

"It's wonderful to see that more children are learning FC Barcelona's way to football which makes for a great foundation," Reyes said.

The organizers chose to hold the camp in Cebu this year in the hopes of reaching football enthusiasts in the southern part of the country.

"This is also a camp to check out football talent in the Visayas area and give them an opportunity to learn from the Barca way."

The training methods for the youth camp are adapted from FCB Escola, the official football school of FC Barcelona. The club is known for grooming football superstars Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and Xavi Hernandez.

Aspiring participants need to register online at fcbescolaphilippines.com to reserve a slot, while a sponsorship program for less privileged but interested hopefuls will be launched on Oct. 2. — JST, GMA News
