FIFA, AFC reschedule World Cup qualifiers in Asia to 2021

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have rescheduled the qualifying matches for the World Cup to 2021.

In an announcement on Wednesday, the football governing bodies said the Asian qualifiers for Qatar, originally slated for October and November, will be moved to next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Postponed matches also include the qualifications for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in China.

"FIFA and the AFC will continue to work together to closely monitor the situation in the region and to identify new dates for the respective qualifying matches," the statement read.
