Kaya FC beats Shanghai Port, earns berth in AFC Champions Cup group stage

Kaya FC just made history for Philippine football.

Kaya, an elite club that sees action in the Philippines Football League (PFL), blanked Shanghai Port, 1-0, to seal its slot in the group stage of AFC Champions League in Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday.

Defender Audie Menzi steered the Filipinos to the momentous victory after hitting the lone goal at the 17th mark of the game.

The Chinese club almost scored an equalizer but Kaya's goalkeeper Louie Casas stood his ground to wrap up the game in favor of the Filipinos.

The hard-fought win sent Kaya, a runner-up in the previous PFL season, in the Group F where they will face powerhouse squads in Thailand' BG Pathom United on Friday, Vietnam's Viettel on June 29 and Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea on July 2.
