Philippine women's football team relishes historic World Cup qualification
The members of the Philippine women's national football team were on cloud nine after booking the country's first ever qualification to the FIFA Women's World Cup.
Just hours after officially qualifying by defeating Chinese Taipei on penalties, 1-1 (4-3), late Sunday in the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup quarterfinals, the players took the celebration to their social media accounts.
"What a night to make history. World Cup 2023, see you soon," wrote Jessica Miclat in the caption of her post on early Monday morning.
Olivia McDaniel, who had a crucial save during the penalty shootout, only had one word to describe the feat: LABAN.
Chandler McDaniel, who scored the Philippines' first goal in this edition of the tournament when they went against Thailand, also celebrated the moment.
Quinley Quezada, who made the Philippines' only goal in the game against Chinese Taipei, likewise enjoyed the victory.
Sarina Bolden, who delivered the winning shot of the penalty shootout against Chinese Taipei, said she is proud of the team's achievement.
"This team is everything, so amazingly proud of everyone involved on this journey," she wrote.
The national women's football team became the first Philippine team to qualify to either men's or women's edition of the FIFA World Cup.
