Hidilyn Diaz thanks PH women's football team for bringing 'good news', pride to country
From one history-making Filipina to another, the country's first Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz congratulated the members of the Philippine women's football team for their historic achievement.
On Monday, Diaz shared in an Instagram story her congratulatory message to the women's squad.
"[Ang] Galing, nakaka-proud at nakakaiyak talaga makita ito kasi nakita ko ang saya ng mga athletes nung nag-goal," Diaz wrote. "Ramdam ko ang love nila sa sports at 'yun ginagawa nila ang best nila," she added.
(It's great. It makes me proud and cry to see the athletes and their happiness when they made the goal. I felt the love for their sport and they are doing their best.)
"Salamat sa magandang balita. Salamat for bringing pride to our country."

Aside from Diaz, several athletes and personalities also celebrated the historic feat.
The national women's football team on Sunday booked its maiden appearance in the FIFA Women's World Cup after defeating Chinese Taipei in the penalty shootout, 4-3. They will be the first Philippine team to play in any edition of the FIFA World Cup.
