Filipinas grouped with Australia in Group A of AFF Women's Championship

The Philippine national women's football team was pooled in Group A in the draw of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women's Championship held on Saturday.

The Filipinas are grouped with higher-ranked team Australia, and neighboring countries Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. Group B, meanwhile, will be composed of Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, and Laos.

Head coach Alen Stajcic said they are looking forward to going against fellow ASEAN countries on home soil.

"Looking forward to playing in front of our home fans and against the best teams in Southeast Asia. [This is] another great opportunity for this team to be tested so that we can learn, grow and improve," he said in a statement.

The women's championship, which will be hosted by the Philippines for the first time, will be held on July 4-17 in the cities of Biñan in Laguna and Imus in Cavite.

The Philippines' best finish in the tournament was back in 2019 where it ranked fourth.

Meanwhile, the Philippines and Vietnam will make their debut in the Women's World Cup in 2023 which will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
