Filipinas blank Singapore to take solo lead in AFF Women's Championship Group A
The Philippines blanked Singapore, 7-0, to notch their second win in the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation Women's Championship played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
It took only nine minutes before the Philippines made its first goal, care of Bella Flanigan. Right after, the Singaporeans made an own goal to give the Filipinas a 2-0 lead.
At the 19' mark, Tahnai Annis scored the Philippines' third goal before Sarina Bolden gave the women's team a 4-0 lead before the halftime break.
Sara Eggesvik opened the second half with another goal, before Kaya Hawkinson made her first goal for the Philippines and the sixth goal of the match. Annika Castañeda joined the scoring spree and gave the Filipinas a 7--0 lead at the 69th minute.
The World Cup-bound Philippines now holds the solo lead in Group A of the tournament. Only the top two teams of each group will advance to the knockout stage. Other countries in Group A include Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia which the Philippines defeated in its opening game. The Filipinas will be back in action on Friday against Malaysia.
