Filipinas dethrone Vietnam, book finals ticket in 2022 AFF Women's Championship


The Philippine national women's football team is heading to the finals of the 2022 AFF Women's Championship.

The World Cup-bound Filipinas on Friday took down defending champs Vietnam, 4-0, in the semifinals held on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium to set its first finals appearance in the tournament.

It took 30 minutes before the Philippines made its first goal with a header from Hali Long, which gave the Filipinas a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Tahnai Annis and Sarina Bolden shone in the second half of the match, with Annis getting the second goal from a penalty kick at the 51' mark. A header by Sarina Bolden on an Annis corner tripled the Filipinas' goal at the 61' mark.

Bolden, at the 71' mark, scored another goal and gave the Filipinas its fourth goal which sealed the win.

The Philippines will face Thailand in the finals on Sunday, 7:30 p.m., at the same venue. During their match in the group stage, the Filipinas fell short against the Thais, 1-0.
