Schrock grateful for 11 years with Azkals, would love to stay involved with Philippine football

Stephan Schrock is nothing but grateful for his 11-year stint with the Philippine national men's football team.

In his last game as a member of the Philippine Azkals last Monday against Indonesia in the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup, the Azkals team captain described the day as an emotional one.

The Azkals lost to Indonesia, 2-1, in Schrock's final game for the Azkals.

"It was an emotional day for me. [I'm] not gonna lie, I pre-cried already so I'm stable now that's why I just let it sink in," Schrock said in the post-match conference.

"[I'm] Just grateful for the last 11 years. I hope some of you enjoyed me also [even] a bit."

Azkals head coach for the AFF Cup Josep Ferre also thanked the team captain.

"I'm very happy to join a part of his career, his last time with the national team," Ferre said.

"Awesome player, awesome professional. He understands... when things are wrong, things are well. [I am] very happy to finish this stage [of his career] with me in this game. Hopefully, he thinks something similar," Ferre added.

Schrock said talks are ongoing and things are just being set up as he wants to still be a part of Philippine football, one way or another.

"I'd love to stay involved. I know it's not the easiest job but I love to be involved," he said.

Back in August, Schrock became a part of the Azkals Development Team's coaching staff in the Philippines Football League.
