Young Azkals move on brink of elimination with loss to Timor Leste

The Philippine men's football team suffered a tough 3-0 loss to Timor-Leste, dimming its chances of a medal finish in the 32nd SEA Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on Thursday night.

Timor-Leste got its first taste of the lead at the 15th-minute mark when Mouzinho Barreto De Lima converted on his goal before Luis Figo Pereira Ribeiro made it a 2-0 lead for them at the 54th mark.

Everything then went south for the Filipinos when substitute Elias Mesquita put the finishing touch at the 89th minute for a 3-0 cushion.

The Philippines will now hope for a better turn of events from other teams' games while also needing to perfect its next game against Myanmar on Wednesday, May 10. Currently, Azkals have a 0-1-2 record to sit deadlast in Group A.

They previously drew Cambodia, 1-1, while they fell to Indonesia in their opening game day with a 3-0 defeat. — LA, GMA Integrated News
