Alex Eala to face Mary Stoiana in first round of 2026 US Open
Alexandra “Alex” Eala is set to face American Mary Stoiana in the first round of the 2026 US Open women’s singles tournament, which begins Sunday (Monday, Philippine time).
Stoiana, 23, is currently ranked No. 122 in the world and will make her US Open main-draw debut.
The exact date and time of their match have yet to be announced.
The American earned her spot in the main draw after victories over France’s Harmony Tan, 6-4, 6-3; Britain’s Katie Swan, 6(5)-7, 6-3, 6-3; and China’s Yue Yuan, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Prior to the US Open, Stoiana played in the first round of the Cincinnati Open and the round of 32 at the Memphis Classic last month.
Eala, meanwhile, enters the tournament as the No. 17 seed, her highest seeding in a Grand Slam tournament.
The Filipina tennis star recently teamed up with Felix Auger-Aliassime in mixed doubles, where they lost to Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils, 4-1, 4-1. She also faced Iva Jovic in an exhibition match, where her friend prevailed, 6-3.
Last year, Eala made history by reaching the second round of the US Open, becoming the first Filipina to win a main-draw match in a Grand Slam tournament.
